Privacy
History Globe needs no account and sets no cookies. It counts visits anonymously and keeps nothing that names you. This page says what is kept, where, for how long and why.
Who is responsible
The site is run by Vadym Arnaut, a private person in Indiana, USA: historyglobe.vadym@gmail.com. It is free and has no advertising.
In your browser
- Interface choices — which panels and tabs are open, “the Bible alone”, the player’s look, when you last saved the globe for offline use — and a lesson you build, with the title you give it, are kept in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device; clearing the site’s data removes them.
- Offline copy. When you choose “Save for use offline”, or simply browse, the site keeps the files it has loaded in your browser’s cache so that the globe opens without a network. Nothing of yours is in them.
Visit counts
We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores no IP address: a visitor is told apart by a hash that is discarded within 24 hours. We see totals only — pages, countries and cities, browsers, the site a visitor came from — never a person, and use them only to learn which places and tours are read.
Servers and other sites
- Hosting. The site is served by Vercel Inc. in the USA. Like any web server it records technical request data (IP address, browser, the page asked for) to deliver and protect the site, for as long as its own policy says; see Vercel’s privacy notice. Vercel takes part in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
- Relief. Terrain tiles come from Mapterhorn’s servers (behind Cloudflare), which keep IP addresses and request details for up to 30 days.
- Links out to Bible Gateway, Azbuka.ru, Wikimedia Commons or Google Maps open those sites only when you click them; their own policies apply there.
- On other sites. An embedded globe, or the script that marks places in another site’s text, is loaded from our server, so our host sees the reader’s IP address and the page it is on; the other site’s policy covers the rest.
Why, and your rights
Server records, visit counts and the relief serve to run and protect the site and to improve it: a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, where it applies). Nothing is sold, shared for advertising or used to follow you across sites. You may ask what we hold, ask us to delete it or object, and complain to your data-protection authority; in practice we hold nothing by which we could find you among the visitors.
Children
The site is a general reference, not made for children under 13 in particular. It is used in classes without any account and asks no one for personal information. If you believe we have received a child’s data, write to us and we will delete it.
